The Specialist Visceral Surgeon is responsible for providing specialized surgical care for patients with diseases affecting the abdominal organs, including the gastrointestinal tract, liver, pancreas, spleen, gallbladder, and related structures. The role involves diagnosing surgical conditions, performing elective and emergency visceral surgical procedures, and delivering comprehensive pre-operative and post-operative care in accordance with international best practices, UAE healthcare regulations, and government hospital standards.
Requirements

Diagnose and manage patients with complex visceral and gastrointestinal surgical conditions.

Perform elective and emergency visceral surgical procedures, including open and minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgeries.

Evaluate patients through clinical examinations, diagnostic investigations, and multidisciplinary consultations.

Develop individualized surgical treatment plans based on evidence-based clinical guidelines.

Provide comprehensive pre-operative assessment, intra-operative management, and post-operative follow-up care.

Manage surgical complications and ensure timely intervention when required.

Participate in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings involving gastroenterology, oncology, radiology, pathology, anesthesiology, and intensive care specialists.

Supervise junior physicians, residents, interns, and nursing staff while promoting clinical excellence and continuous learning.

Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.

Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement initiatives, morbidity and mortality meetings, and clinical audits.

Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control measures, patient safety protocols, and hospital accreditation standards.

Participate in emergency call rotations and trauma services as assigned.

Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold the highest standards of medical ethics and professionalism.

Engage in Continuing Medical Education (CME), research activities, and departmental academic programs.
Qualifications
- Specialist qualification in General Surgery with subspecialty training in Visceral Surgery from a recognized institution.

Fellowship or equivalent certification in Visceral, Gastrointestinal, or Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) Surgery is preferred.

Experience in a government hospital, tertiary care center, or accredited teaching hospital is preferred.

Demonstrated expertise in open and laparoscopic visceral surgical procedures.

Experience managing complex gastrointestinal and abdominal surgical cases.
