We are looking to hire a Senior Black Utilities Lead Engineer (f/m/d) to join our Mechanical Department in the Italy office. The successful candidate will be technically responsible for coordinating and supervising the development of Utilities and Mechanical designs. They will ensure commitment to schedule, productivity, and quality, in accordance with specific design criteria and client requirements. The Lead Engineer will manage, guide, and motivate project teams through technical competence, interpersonal sensitivity, and conflict management skills, acting as the technical authority on complex systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design and engineering team in the execution of Black Utilities design for heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and pharmaceutical process systems.
Ensure project objectives and needs are met through effective resource and task management.
Perform Utilities calculations for both generation and distribution systems.
Prepare and revise technical documentation: specifications, technical descriptions, Scopes of Work (SoW), and Bills of Quantities (BoQ) for Black Utilities (Chilled, Hot, Glycolic, Potable Water, Steam, Compressed Air, Drainage, and Sewage systems).
Develop and revise P&IDs in accordance with design scope and requirements.
Provide guidance and technical leadership throughout the entire project lifecycle.
Coordinate multi-disciplinary designs and manage local/international external consultants.
Collaborate with 3D modeling teams to ensure the accurate conveyance of technical information.
Participate in Client and Stakeholder meetings to build and maintain positive collaborative relationships.
Execute technical alignments and bid tabulations for tender packages and procurement.
Ensure compliance with applicable codes, engineering standards, and best practices.
Review HVAC and Process drawings (proficiency in this area is a significant plus).
Mentor and support junior engineers in their professional growth.
Here's what you'll need
Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
Minimum 10 years of experience in Black Utilities design.
Extensive experience in design calculations for Utilities distribution and generation.
Experience in Pharmaceuticals or Data Center projects is a strong plus.
Proven track record in leading technical teams on both local and international projects.
Deep knowledge of standards and codes: PED, Machinery Directive (Direttiva Macchine), ASHRAE, Energy and Sustainability codes, ISO standards, GMP, and relevant EU Directives.
BIM & Software: Basic Knowledge in MEP software for Utilities (AutoCAD, Plant3D) and specialized collaborative platforms (BIM360, ACC, Navisworks, MagiCAD, Revizto) is a plus.
BMS & Systems: Knowledge of BMS & Control Systems and Testing & Commissioning (T&C) experience is a plus.
Site Experience: Previous experience on construction sites is a plus.
Languages: Fluent in English and Italian required at B1/B2 level
Mobility: Availability for national and international missions/travel.

Posted Salary Range: Upper
67,500.00
The offer range for this position is €54,000.00 to €67,500.00 gross per year (or hourly equivalent if hired into hourly role). The final salary within this range will be determined based on objective, gender neutral and job-related criteria, such as relevant professional experience, skills, qualifications, the scope of responsibilities and the contracted working hours/work schedule.
