The Telescope Department at OHB Italia is dedicated to the design, development, integration, and deployment of remotely operated optical telescopes supporting international Space Safety initiatives, including Space Surveillance and Tracking (SST) and Near-Earth Object (NEO) detection. Position Overview
We are seeking a Verification & Validation (V&V) SW Engineer to ensure that the SW meets exact specifications, software readiness, system control functionality, and effective commissioning of Flyeye telescopes during deployment campaigns.
This role is responsible for developing and executing verification and validation activities, diagnostics, end-to-end testing, and system stabilization during commissioning on site. You will collaborate closely with software developers, systems engineers, quality assurance teams, and other stakeholders throughout the development lifecycle to identify defects, verify compliance with specifications, and support the delivery of reliable, high-quality software solutions.
The role requires: experience with software testing methodologies and automation frameworks, and a solid understanding of software development processes; strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to coordinate software, interfaces, and commissioning logic within a multidisciplinary field team.
You will be responsible for testing, installing and configuring system control software, leading functional, integration and end-to-end tests, driving first-line troubleshooting, and coordinating second-line support with the SW Team.
Key Responsibilities
- Verify that software requirements are correctly implemented and tested.
- Design, develop, and maintain test plans, test cases, and automated test suites.
- Execute verification and validation activities throughout the software lifecycle.
- Install and configure system software, and test tools required for site integration and commissioning.
- Identify, document, and track defects to resolution.
- Support compliance with ECSS standards.
- Contribute to process improvements that enhance software quality, reliability, and efficiency.
- Own first-line software and control troubleshooting during site integration and stabilization.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace, Electronics, Automation, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in Software Verification & Validation (V&V), software testing, test plans execution, commissioning, or a similar engineering role.
- Knowledge of verification and validation methodologies, including functional, integration, system, regression, and performance testing.
- Ability to understand interactions between software, hardware, and operational procedures during commissioning.
- Structured approach to log analysis, anomaly resolution, and test execution.
- Good communication skills and ability to coordinate technical activities across teams.
- Good command of English, both written and spoken.
- Availability for frequent international travel and on-site support during deployment phases.
Technical Skills
- Strong experience with Windows and Linux operating systems
- Proficient in Python and C/C++ programming languages
- Skilled in managing branches using version control systems such as Git
- Familiar with CI/CD practices and workflows
- Proficient with test automation frameworks and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, Behave, or similar)
- Gherkin
Nice to Have
- Experience with telescope control systems, remote sensing systems, ground segments, automation systems, or scientific instrumentation.
- Familiarity with commissioning workflows, acceptance testing, and operational readiness activities.
- Experience in the space sector, observatory operations, or complex electromechanical integration programs.
- Knowledge of networks, interface protocols, and supervised control architectures.
- Familiar with Java programming language
The gross annual remuneration package will be determined based on the degree of alignment between the candidate’s profile and the requirements of the role, as well as the level of professional experience acquired. The salary range is therefore as follows:
€32,000–€60,000
