About Philogen
Philogen S.p.A. is a biotechnology company dedicated to developing targeted products for the imaging and treatment of life-threatening diseases, with a strategic focus on oncology. Our mission is to translate cutting-edge scientific innovation into effective therapies that improve patients’ lives.
Position Overview
At Philogen, we are transforming core business processes into production-grade AI systems supporting clinical operations, R&D, finance, and corporate functions in a regulated environment.
We are looking for a Data & AI Intern who will work one-to-one with an experienced Member of the Technical Staff in the Data & AI team. You will contribute to real projects from the beginning: integrating data sources, developing pipelines, modeling business information, and building tools that allow AI agents to work reliably with company data.
This six-month internship is intended as a potential pathway toward a full-time Member of the Technical Staff role.
What You Will Do
- Model business concepts and their connections in a shared ontology and knowledge layer.
- Build reusable skills and tools through which AI agents can query data, perform analyses, and generate reports.
- Develop and maintain Python pipelines that ingest data from APIs, spreadsheets, exports, and operational systems.
- Clean, validate, transform, aggregate, and reconcile data from different departments and sources.
- Support day-to-day data science activities, including data-quality analysis, reporting, statistical investigation, and process automation.
- Write tests, review code, document decisions, and contribute through a shared Git-based development workflow.
- Learn how to build graph-based data systems designed for AI agents
What We Are Looking For
- Strong Python programming skills and the ability to write structured, maintainable code in shared repos.
- Knowledge of SQL, relational databases, data structures, joins, aggregations, and data modeling.
- Experience with GitHub, pull requests, automated testing, and collaborative software development.
- A foundation in statistics, data analysis, and the interpretation of imperfect real-world datasets.
- Familiarity with APIs, structured data formats, and common data-ingestion patterns.
- Practical understanding of generative AI, including model APIs, agents, tool use, structured outputs, RAG, and evaluation.
- High daily engagement with modern AI development tools such as Claude Code and Codex.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a builder mindset.
- Ability to communicate with non-technical stakeholders and translate their needs into practical technical solutions.
- Strong written and spoken English.
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of healthcare, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, clinical trials, or regulated environments.
- Familiarity with knowledge graphs, ontologies, network science, GraphRAG, or retrieval-augmented generation.
- Frontend development experience, particularly with TypeScript and React.
- Experience working with data processes spanning several departments or enterprise systems.
- Familiarity with accounting, procurement, invoicing, or financial reporting.
- Experience with analytical databases, columnar data processing, or larger data workflows.
- Evidence of having built and completed a technical project outside standard coursework.
Education
- Currently or recently completed Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Physics, Bioinformatics, or a related quantitative field.
Please specify your final degree grade in your CV.
- Strong academic background; international study or project experience.
What We Offer
- Six-month internship, open to both curricular and extracurricular candidates.
- €1,500 net per month.
- One-to-one mentorship from a Member of the Technical Staff.
- Direct exposure to leadership and high-impact projects across the organization.
- The opportunity to work on applied AI systems across clinical, scientific, operational, and corporate workflows.
- A potential pathway toward a full-time Member of the Technical Staff position.
