Founded in 1964 by the late Nobel Laureate Abdus Salam and located in Trieste (Italy), the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) seeks to accomplish its mandate by providing scientists from developing countries with the continuing education and skills that they need to enjoy long and productive careers. OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
Under the supervision of the Senior Coordinator (Research and Partnerships), the incumbent will provide technical expertise in HPC and scientific computing to contribute to ICTP's training programmes for young researchers, including the Master in High-Performance Computing (MHPC). The position falls within the framework of the International Consortium for Scientific Computing (ICOMP), an initiative launched by ICTP as part of its 2025–2029 strategic plan to support computational sciences at the global level.
Essential responsibilities include: KEY ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Contribute to the Master in HPC. Contribute to the Master in HPC by providing advanced technical expertise, coordinating and continuously updating the MHPC curricula, organizing course delivery, and teaching specialized topics (for example Advanced C++) within the programme in line with current developments in high-performance computing. Support the strategic development of the MHPC by formulating recommendations, ensuring coherence with institutional priorities and emerging scientific and technological trends.
Contribute to ICTP Programmes. Contribute to ICTP programmes by supporting initiatives in HPC and closely related fields, both at ICTP and through collaborative efforts.
Provide support to ICTP staff. Provide technical support to ICTP staff in the field of HPC and scientific computing.
Provide support to ICTP students and visitors. Provide comprehensive academic, technical, and logistical support to ICTP students and visiting researchers, fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and intellectually stimulating environment conducive to learning and research.
Mentoring students. Assist in mentoring, advising, and guiding students and programme participants in HPC-related topics, supporting their academic progress, research development, and professional growth.

EDUCATION
Advanced University degree (PhD or equivalent) in Physics, Computer Sciences, Mathematics, or related field(s).
WORK EXPERIENCE
At least one year of relevant professional experience in HPC and advanced parallel programming, preferably in an international environment, and familiarity with large-scale computational infrastructures.

UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits wh ich may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc.
The approximate annual starting salary for this post is 55 713 EUR, based on full time (100%).
