POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Senior/Principal Application Engineer will drive the development of reference designs and application boards with a strong focus on Industrial motor-control and motor-drive applications that showcase Nexperia’s portfolio. This position is part of our System and Application Team and plays a critical role in bridging product development and customer requirements by translating device capabilities into practical, production ready hardware solutions
The role is central to enabling customer adoption and accelerating time-to-market through high-quality design collaterals, hands-on validation and technical support
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Main Responsibility

Design, develop, and validate reference designs and application boards using Nexperia’s discrete, analog, and power IC solutions

Create schematics, perform component selection, and collaborate on PCB layout to optimize performance, efficiency, cost, thermal behavior, and reliability
-
Perform comprehensive electrical, thermal, and system-level validation, including efficiency analysis, switching characterization, transient response testing, thermal profiling, and EMI/EMC pre-compliance evaluation and troubleshooting

Provide application-focused technical support to customers and sales teams by troubleshooting designs, supporting design-in activities, participating in customer engagements, and representing Nexperia at workshops, conferences, and exhibitions

Create and maintain high-quality technical collateral such as application notes, design guides, simulation models, user manuals, and web-based application content

Build deep application expertise and translate customer insights into future product opportunities by collaborating with marketing, R&D, and system architects to define requirements, identify use cases, and contribute to product roadmap development
SKILLS /COMPETENCIES

Education/ studies: BSEE. MSEE preferred

Min 5 years of experience in application engineering, hardware design or power electronics

Proven experience developing reference designs or evaluation boards for various types of machine drives: stepper motors, brushed DC motors, BLDCs, PMSMs and induction drives

Experience in Robotics and Automation Systems is a strong advantage

Strong understanding of three-phase power systems, inverter topologies,

Switching behaviour, losses and efficiency optimization

Technical experience in PCB design and layout – Altium, KiCad

Familiarity with simulation tools and industry standards - Matlab/Simulink, LT Spice, Plecs, Thermal analysis, EMC compatibility

Strong analytical and system-level thinking

Hands-on, problem-solving mindset with attention to detail

Ability to work in cross-functional and global teams

Customer focused approach with strong ownership

Excellent presentation and technical writing skills

English business fluent verbal and written, German nice to have.
