IRCCS San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Milan, Italy, is looking for a highly motivated candidate for a position as a Junior Research Fellow to join the Molecular Genetics of Renal Disorders Unit led by Prof. Luca Rampoldi (https://research.hsr.it/en/divisions/genetics-and-cell-biology/molecular-genetics-of-renal-disorders.html).
The main research interest of our group is the study of the molecular bases of common and rare renal disorders. Our research is mostly focused on investigating the mechanisms of pathogenesis of a rare genetic disease called Autosomal Dominant Tubulointerstitial Kidney Disease (ADTKD). ADTKD is genetically heterogeneous and it can be caused by mutation in several genes; our focus is on ADTKD forms due to mutations in the genes encoding uromodulin and renin. We are also actively working on understanding the functional link between uromodulin common gene variants and genetic risk of chronic kidney disease and hypertension. To achieve our goal, we employ a wide range of biochemistry, molecular biology and imaging approaches in different mouse and cellular models.
Main activities
The candidate will have a crucial role in a project aimed at dissecting the molecular mechanisms underlying kidney disease associated with uromodulin and renin mutations by taking advantage of well-established in vivo and in vitro models. The results from this investigation will help identifying novel pathways and targets for therapeutic intervention for these yet uncurable diseases.
Who we are looking for
The ideal candidate should have a Master's degree (MSc) in Biotechnology, Biology, or a related field, prior experience in mouse model handling and/or experimentation, expertise in main biochemistry and molecular biology techniques, strong teamwork skills, reliability and precision.
