Fraunhofer Italia is seeking a Research Engineer or Applied Research Scientist to join our "Robotics & Intelligent Systems Engineering (RISE)" research group in Bolzano at the earliest possible date. Our team focuses on the development of advanced mechatronic and robotic systems.

Your Role:
- Design and develop application-oriented robotic prototypes and deploy them in real-world scenarios in the sector of industrial production, logistics, healthcare, agriculture and construction.
- Participate in national and international research projects (e.g. EU projects), including project planning, coordination, and result presentation.
- Collaborate in interdisciplinary teams combining engineering, software development, together with partners from academia, industry, and the public sector.
Necessary qualifications:
- You have a MSc or PhD degree in mechatronics/robotics engineering or similar.
- You have more than 2 years work experience including modelling, simulation and control of robotic
systems.
- You have a strong background in autonomous navigation for mobile robots, including planning, localization, perception and related areas.
- You have strong programming experience in C++, Python and the Robot Operating System 2 (ROS).
- You have a strong knowledge of Linux, Git and Docker.
- You work independently, systematically and have a high degree of commitment, creativity and team spirit.
- You have excellent communication skills in either German or Italian (C1/C2 level) and you are fluent in English (written and spoken).
- You have a valid work permit for EU.
Technical Pluses:
- You have hands-on experience working with real robots.
- Experience with ROS 2 frameworks like Nav2, Moveit2 and Gazebo/Isaac Sim.
Experience with libraries like OpenCV and BT.CPP.
