Role Description
This is an on-site role based in Griante, Lake Como, Italy, for an experienced Gardener / Estate Groundskeeper who will be responsible for maintaining the gardens and external areas of Greyheath Hospitality's newest luxury lakeside villa.
Working as part of the on-property team, the Gardener will ensure the estate's extensive gardens, landscaped grounds and outdoor living spaces are presented to the highest possible standard throughout the year. The role combines horticultural expertise with a meticulous approach to estate presentation, ensuring the property reflects the exceptional standards expected of a luxury private residence.
The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day care of lawns, ornamental planting, trees, hedges and seasonal displays, while supporting environmental sustainability and working closely with the Hospitality Manager and Maintenance Technician to ensure the estate remains immaculate for owners and guests.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years' experience as a Gardener or Groundskeeper within a luxury private estate, boutique hotel, historic property or high-end residential environment.
- Strong horticultural knowledge, including the care of ornamental gardens, lawns, shrubs, trees, seasonal planting and flowering displays.
- Experience maintaining Mediterranean and lakeside gardens, with an understanding of seasonal planting programmes and local growing conditions.
- Knowledge of irrigation systems, fertilisation programmes, pest and disease management, and sustainable gardening practices.
- Competent in the safe operation and maintenance of horticultural machinery and equipment, including ride-on mowers, strimmers, hedge trimmers, chainsaws (where certified) and irrigation systems.
- Ability to identify and proactively address issues affecting the health and appearance of the gardens and wider estate.
- Experience coordinating specialist contractors, including arborists, landscape designers and external horticultural suppliers, when required.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise seasonal workloads and maintain consistently high presentation standards.
- Excellent attention to detail and pride in delivering immaculate outdoor spaces.
- Professional, discreet and trustworthy, with an understanding of the expectations of UHNW clients and private residences.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the Hospitality Manager and wider estate team.
- Fluency in Italian is required; working knowledge of English is highly desirable.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays, to meet the seasonal and operational needs of the estate.
- Valid authorisation to work in Italy.
