Job Purpose
The Innovation Mechatronic Systems Engineer will work within the Innovation environment to define, develop, prototype, validate and transfer innovative mechatronic solutions for agricultural machinery. The role connects systems engineering, controls, electronics, hydraulics, software, sensors, simulation and vehicle integration to create robust technology concepts that address future platform and customer needs.
The successful candidate will collaborate with product platforms, electrical and software engineering, simulation, test lab, precision technology, autonomy, suppliers and field validation teams to mature technologies from early concept through prototype validation and readiness for product development. Collaborations with Universities and Research Centers are expected to support the early stages of development.
Key Responsibilities
Innovation & Technology Development
- Lead and execute innovation projects focused on advanced mechatronic systems for agricultural equipment.
- Identify, assess and mature emerging technologies in automation, robotics, sensors, electrification, connectivity, artificial intelligence and machine intelligence.
- Translate customer needs and future farming workflows into system concepts, architectures and demonstrators.
- Contribute to technology roadmaps, feasibility studies and technology readiness level advancement.
Mechatronic Systems Engineering
- Define system requirements, functional specifications, interface documents and validation plans.
- Develop integrated system architectures combining sensors, actuators, embedded electronics, software, hydraulics, electro-hydraulics and electrification technologies.
- Perform design reviews, technical trade-off analysis, cost/functionality assessments and risk evaluations.
- Support FMEA, safety analysis and functional safety activities where applicable.
Controls, Software & Simulation
- Develop control concepts and algorithms for advanced machine functions and automated operations.
- Support model-based design, simulation and virtual validation of new mechatronic systems.
- Collaborate with software and controls teams to prototype embedded functions and evaluate performance.
- Analyze test data and use simulation results to refine system behavior and control strategies.
Prototype Validation & Field Testing
- Support prototype definition, build, instrumentation and commissioning.
- Plan and execute laboratory, vehicle and field validation activities.
- Troubleshoot issues, identify root causes and define corrective actions.
- Capture operator and customer feedback and convert field insights into technical improvements.
Collaboration & Technology Transfer
- Work effectively with multidisciplinary and international teams across engineering, product platforms, suppliers and research partners.
- Prepare clear technical documentation, specifications, test reports and management updates.
- Support transfer of validated technologies into product development programs.
- Mentor interns or junior engineers involved in innovation investigations when required.
Experience Required
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Agricultural, Robotics, Control Systems Engineering or equivalent technical discipline.
Experience
- Engineering experience on agricultural equipment 3 to 5 years
- Engineering experience, academic project work, internship, thesis or laboratory experience related to hydraulics, simulation, controls, vehicle systems or machinery applications.
- Experience in mechatronic system development, agricultural equipment, off-highway machinery, automotive systems, robotics, automation or electrification.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Software & Tools
- MATLAB / Simulink, Amesim or equivalent simulation environments.
- Python, C/C++ or other scripting/programming languages for prototyping and data analysis.
- CANalyzer / CANoe, Vector tools or similar vehicle network analysis tools.
- Requirements and lifecycle tools such as Polarion, Jira, Enterprise Architect or equivalent.
- CAD or system architecture tools such as Creo, CATIA or equivalent, depending on project needs.

- Strong systems-thinking mindset and ability to manage complexity across engineering domains.
- Innovation-oriented attitude with curiosity for emerging technologies and practical experimentation.
- Customer-focused approach, able to convert field pain points into valuable technology concepts.

- Effective communication with technical specialists, managers, suppliers and global stakeholders with strong written and verbal communication skills in a technical, cross-functional environment.
- Clear communication and ability to summarize technical findings for different audiences.
- Self-motivation, ownership and ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to move technology concepts from ideation to prototype validation.
- Proactive attitude, ownership of assigned tasks and attention to engineering quality.
Pay Transparency
The annual salary for this role is EUR €39,000.00 - €59,000.00 plus any applicable bonus (Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as skill, experience and qualification for the role.)
For roles open across multiple locations, the salary range indicated refers to the primary location. If a different location is considered, the applicable salary range will be communicated to candidates prior to the first interview.
