New York University (NYU) Florence is seeking an exceptional part-time lecturer for “Global Fashion Industry: Italy,” an undergraduate course sponsored by the Gallatin School of Individualized Study. Scheduled for the Spring 2027 semester, this English-taught course spans 15 in-person instructional weeks with a class meeting pattern of approximately 3 hours per week. In addition to the time dedicated to course preparation, classroom instruction, and grading, the instructor is expected to hold regular weekly office hours to provide dedicated academic mentorship to students.
The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in the Italian fashion business lifecycle—from luxury to mass market—and an active professional network. The instructor is expected to actively leverage this network to organize site visits to local design studios, showrooms, and factories, as well as coordinate guest lectures with industry professionals.
The instructor maintains full responsibility for all course preparation, delivery, and assessment. Designed to be intellectually demanding, the course requires a highly rigorous approach to evaluating student performance. To achieve this, instructors are expected to deploy a diverse range of innovative pedagogical techniques. This typically includes combining interactive lectures and seminar-style discussions with experiential activities, such as structured debates, flipped classroom environments, and industry simulations. Instructors are further encouraged to design varied, multi-faceted assignments to comprehensively assess student mastery of the course material. Classes are held entirely in person.
Candidates should possess a minimum of three years of undergraduate-level teaching experience that demonstrates a successful blend of academic instruction and active creative or professional practice. To successfully deliver the experiential components of this syllabus, relevant professional experience within the fashion industry is highly preferred. A terminal degree (such as a PhD, JD, MFA, MPS, or MBA) and prior experience teaching within US higher education institutions or study-abroad programs will be considered strong plus factors. Applicants must hold a valid Italian work permit at the time of application, covering the entire duration of the Spring 2027 academic semester.
