THE ROLE
You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where chemists, engineers and materials scientists collaborate, each with their expertise, to carry out a scientific activity with a shared research goal.
The Applied Energy Materials and Technologies (EMaT) Research unit is coordinated by Isabella Poli, who has extensive experience in applied energy materials and characterization. The research team focuses on the development of novel materials and technologies for photo-electro-catalytic applications in water treatment and solar fuels generation.
The assignment is based on IIT's need to implement research and experimentation activities related to photocatalytic systems within the Fondo Italiano per la Scienza (FIS) - MUR funded "pEroVskitEs foR photocataLYtic systems" (EVERLY) project. This project aims to develop efficient, stable and scalable photocatalysts for the generation of solar fuels.
You will work closely with scientific, technical, and administrative teams to make sure that equipment, spaces and supplies are well organized and fully operational.
Within the research team your main responsibilities will be:
- Prepare, organize, and manage experimental workspaces to ensure they are functional and properly supplied
- Perform routine instrument checks, calibration and minor repairs on equipment and facility components
- Support researchers’ technical needs and provide them with general troubleshooting to ensure functionality and readiness for experiments
- Assist with daily operational activities, including procurement, orders, inventory management, deliveries, and logistics
- Interact with external suppliers and service providers
- Train junior staff or students in the correct use of instrumentation and ensure compliance with lab procedures
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in chemistry, materials science and similar disciplines
- Documented experience in gas chromatography to execute laboratory experiments and perform basic data analysis
- Previous experience in a research chemistry laboratory
- Proactive, flexible, and hands-on attitude, with the ability to support daily operations across different areas (e.g., small maintenance, room management, general operational, procurement, orders, logistics)
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical, scientific, and administrative teams
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail and accurate record-keeping
- Good working knowledge of English (spoken and written)
ADDITIONAL SKILLS
- Previous experience in facility support, laboratory operations or technical assistance
- Knowledge of safe operation and maintenance of laboratory facilities, including fume hoods, gloveboxes, gas supply systems, and chemical waste disposal
- Experience in logistics or inventory management
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment
COMPENSATION PACKAGE
- Private health care coverage (depending on your role and contract)
- Candidates from abroad or Italian citizens who permanently work abroad and meet specific requirements, may be entitled to a deduction from taxable income of up to 90% from 6 to 13 years.
