Job Title: Barista
Reports To: Cafe Manager / Shift Lead

Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and customer-focused Barista to join our team. As the face of our cafe, you will be responsible for crafting high-quality beverages, maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, and creating a welcoming atmosphere for our guests. The ideal candidate has a genuine love for coffee and a desire to grow within the specialty coffee industry.
Key Responsibilities
Beverage Preparation:
- Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold beverages (espresso, pour-over, cold brew, tea, etc.) according to standardized recipes.
- Operate commercial espresso machines, grinders, and brewing equipment.
- Dial in grind settings and taste espresso shots regularly to ensure quality consistency.
- Steam and texture milk to perfection for latte art and optimal taste.
Customer Service:
- Greet customers warmly, take orders accurately, and answer questions regarding our menu and coffee origins.
- Handle customer complaints or concerns with patience and professionalism.
- Educate customers on brewing methods and retail bean offerings to drive sales.
Operations & Cleanliness:
- Maintain a spotless work area, including wiping down counters, cleaning equipment, and taking out trash.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations (food handling, sanitization).
- Restock supplies (cups, lids, milk, syrups) during slower periods.
- Process payments using the Point of Sale (POS) system and balance the cash drawer at the end of shifts.
Teamwork:
- Collaborate with kitchen staff (if applicable) to ensure food orders are delivered promptly.
- Assist in opening/closing duties (setting up/packing down the machine, turning off equipment).
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a fast-paced coffee shop or food service environment (minimum 6 months preferred).
- Food Handler’s Permit (must be willing to obtain prior to start date if not current).
Skills & Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of espresso extraction, milk texturing, and basic latte art.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to stand for extended periods (8 hours) and lift up to 30 lbs (bags of beans/milk crates).
- Availability to work flexible hours, including early mornings (6:00 AM start), weekends, and holidays.
