The daily work of an IT Support Specialist blends reactive troubleshooting with proactive system maintenance. Key duties typically include:
- Technical Support: Providing first and second-level support to end-users by diagnosing and resolving issues related to hardware (desktops, laptops, printers), software (operating systems, business applications), and network connectivity . This often involves answering queries via phone, email, chat, or in-person, and using a ticketing system to track and prioritize requests .
- System Maintenance and Configuration: Installing, configuring, and updating computer hardware, software, and security patches . Specialists also set up user accounts, manage access permissions, and assist with the onboarding and offboarding of employees .
- Network and Infrastructure Assistance: Monitoring system performance and ensuring network reliability by troubleshooting common connectivity issues related to Wi-Fi, VPNs, and IP configuration . They may also assist with routine maintenance of network equipment like routers and switches .
- Documentation and Security: Meticulously documenting support requests, solutions, and system changes in a knowledge base . They also assist with data backup, recovery procedures, and upholding cybersecurity best practices .
Essential Qualifications and Skills
