Senior Accountant - Location: MALTA

1. ROLE PURPOSE
The Senior Accountant, based in Malta, independently manages general accounting activities, with direct responsibility for the full accounts payable cycle, bank transaction recording, and periodic financial closings. The role works in close coordination with the CFO and the Finance team based at the Swiss HQ, acting as a technical point of reference for the administrative team and providing direct support during audit and reporting activities. This position requires solid prior experience, a high degree of operational autonomy, and the ability to supervise and mentor more junior staff, actively contributing to the improvement of the group's accounting processes.
2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounts Payable — Core Area
- End-to-end management of the accounts payable cycle, from receipt to entry in SAP, with supervision of junior colleagues' work
- Direct responsibility for maintaining and monitoring the accounts payable aging schedule
- Preparation, verification and authorization of supplier payments (bank transfers, RID, SDD), including cash priorities
- Management and control of supplier credit notes
- Supervision of matching between purchase orders, delivery notes and invoices, resolving discrepancies
- Management of documentation and filing related to accounts payable invoices, ensuring regulatory compliance
- Periodic analysis of supplier account statements and management of reminders
General Accounting
- Recording and review of periodic closing entries (accruals, deferrals, depreciation)
- Direct responsibility for monthly and annual financial closing activities, fully autonomously
- Reconciliation and supervision of assigned general ledger accounts, including review of other accountants' work
- Management of bank transactions and execution of complex bank reconciliations
- End-to-end VAT management: periodic settlement, control and preparation of returns
- Supervision of the accounting entry of employee expense reports
Tax and Administrative Compliance
- Coordination of data collection and preparation of periodic VAT returns
- Responsibility for electronic invoicing and compliant digital archiving
- Monitoring and control of withholding tax compliance
- Supervision of the filing and retention of accounting documentation in line with regulatory requirements
- Management of administrative procedures related to tax incentives
3. REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Degree (including a bachelor's degree) in Economics, Business Administration or equivalent
- Certifications in accounting/tax matters are a relevant plus
Experience
- 5-6 years of experience in accounting roles, with proven managerial autonomy
- Solid, consolidated experience entering accounts payable invoices and recording bank transactions
- Direct, proven experience in monthly and annual financial closing activities
- Prior experience coordinating or mentoring junior colleagues is a plus
- Experience with, or solid knowledge of, Italian companies required
Technical Skills — MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
- SAP: consolidated working knowledge — MANDATORY REQUIREMENT
- Excellent command of Excel, including advanced functions
- Solid knowledge of electronic invoicing and the Italian Interchange System (SDI)
- Good knowledge of Italian VAT regulations
- Consolidated knowledge of Italian OIC accounting principles applicable to financial statements
- Experience with digital document retention software
