Description
The purpose of the European Field Medical Manager role is to lead the strategic implementation and execution of Global Medical Affairs objectives across Europe through the leadership of a high-performing regional field medical team. The role is responsible for translating global medical strategy into impactful regional and country-level execution, ensuring consistency while adapting to local market needs and healthcare systems.
The European Field Medical Manager will provide leadership, coaching, and direction to a team of Field Medical Advisors / Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) across key European markets. The role requires strong cross-functional collaboration with Global and Regional Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Market Access, Commercial, and affiliate teams to support the successful development and launch readiness of the company’s clinical programs.
As a senior scientific leader, the incumbent serves as a therapeutic area expert in Dermatology and Immunology, fostering strong relationships with the European medical and scientific community while driving excellence in scientific engagement, medical education, evidence generation, and insight collection.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Regional Medical Affairs Strategy & Leadership

Lead the implementation of Global Medical Affairs strategy across Europe, translating objectives into tailored regional and country-specific execution plans.

Develop and oversee regional medical activity plans aligned with global priorities, country needs, and business objectives.

Ensure consistency and excellence in execution across markets while allowing for appropriate local adaptation.

Maintain a strong understanding of the European healthcare environment, treatment landscape, reimbursement dynamics, key societies, and congresses across priority countries.

Stay informed of the latest scientific developments in Dermatology, Immunology, and Respiratory therapeutic areas to shape regional medical strategy.

Partner closely with Global Medical Affairs to ensure European perspectives and medical insights inform global strategic planning.
Team Leadership & Development

Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of Field Medical Advisors / MSLs across Europe.

Set clear objectives, performance expectations, and development plans for team members.

Foster a culture of scientific excellence, collaboration, compliance, and accountability.

Support onboarding, capability building, succession planning, and ongoing development of the field medical organization.

Establish and monitor KPIs and field medical excellence standards to ensure impactful execution and continuous improvement.
Medical Community Scientific Engagement

Oversee regional KOL mapping, engagement planning, and stakeholder prioritization across European markets.

Ensure strategic and compliant engagement with leading clinical and scientific stakeholders.

Guide the team in communicating complex scientific information to healthcare professionals and external experts.

Drive high-quality medical insight gathering according to agreed listening priorities and ensure actionable insights are shared with internal stakeholders.

Act as a senior medical reference point for complex scientific discussions and external medical inquiries.
Medical Education & Scientific Exchange

Identify regional medical education needs to support clinical development, disease awareness, and treatment landscape shaping.

Lead scientific exchange initiatives and ensure healthcare professionals participating in educational programs are adequately informed and updated.

Support the development and execution of internal and external educational initiatives, advisory boards, and training programs.

Partner with internal teams to strengthen scientific capability across the organization.
Clinical Research & Evidence Generation

Collaborate with Clinical Development teams to support recruitment and engagement for priority clinical studies across Europe.

Identify evidence gaps and support investigator-initiated research opportunities and scientific collaborations.
-
Facilitate scientific discussions related to developmental research, pipeline assets, and clinical programs where appropriate.

Ensure strong connectivity between field medical teams and clinical operations to optimize trial awareness and engagement.
Cross-Functional Partnership

Partner with Medical Directors, Market Access, Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR), Regulatory, and Commercial teams to provide scientific expertise and ensure medical alignment.

Provide medical and scientific input to support health economics, reimbursement, and market access activities.

Deliver disease area and clinical data training to internal stakeholders.

Support scientific review of regulatory and medical documentation (e.g., SmPCs, risk management materials, and scientific content), as required.
Compliance & Governance

Ensure all regional field medical activities are conducted in accordance with internal policies, local regulations, and industry compliance standards.

Maintain the highest standards of scientific integrity, patient focus, and ethical engagement.

Ensure consistency in compliant ways of working across all European markets.
REQUIREMENTS
-
Advanced degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine, PhD, PharmD, MD, or equivalent scientific discipline required.

Significant experience within Medical Affairs and/or Field Medical roles in biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries, including prior people leadership experience or demonstrated leadership of cross-country teams.

Strong expertise in immunological diseases within Dermatology and/or Respiratory therapeutic areas, including disease pathophysiology, treatment landscape, and emerging scientific trends.

Demonstrated experience leading strategic medical planning and execution in a regional or multinational environment.

Proven ability to build, lead, coach, and develop high-performing medical teams.

Strong network and proven ability to establish and maintain relationships with European KOLs and external stakeholders.

Excellent communication, presentation, and influencing skills with the ability to engage senior internal and external stakeholders.

Strong strategic mindset with the ability to balance big-picture thinking and operational execution.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly matrixed, and evolving environment.

Experience working cross-functionally within Global and Regional Medical Affairs organizations.

Fluency in English (written and spoken); additional European languages are an advantage.

Willingness to travel up to 50% across Europe.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
