The Software Development Engineer Professional is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting robust, scalable software solutions for business-critical systems.
This role partners with developers, architects, product management, customers, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality distributed applications, improve existing products, and contribute to new business opportunities through prototypes and technical innovation.
The position requires strong technical expertise, a proactive and collaborative approach, and the ability to perform effectively in agile, regulated, and high-availability environments.
- Collaborate closely with customers and key project stakeholders
- Work with developers, architects, product managers, and other product teams to design, develop, and integrate software solutions across multiple products.
- Develop high-quality, well-structured, and testable code.
- Contribute actively to solution design, development, and delivery, including planning and review activities.
- Partner with technical writers to enhance user manuals and produce internal technical documentation.
- Troubleshoot, debug, maintain, and enhance existing software modules in line with standard product maintenance processes.
- Support new business opportunities by contributing to customer proof-of-concepts and developing prototypes based on emerging technologies.
- Participate in on-call rotations and provide production support when required to help prevent and resolve system downtime.
- Take part in agile ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- At least 5 years of experience in the design and development of distributed applications.
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience with Java/J2EE, JPA, and Hibernate.
- Experience developing and deploying applications in containerized environments using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience building applications with Spring Boot.
- Solid understanding of RESTful APIs and service-based architectures.
- Good knowledge of relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL; familiarity with DB2 and Oracle is a plus.
- Good knowledge of messaging systems, preferably ActiveMQ Artemis and JMS.
- Experience working in Agile development environments.
- Professional proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

This information reflects Brightstar Lottery’s good-faith estimate of compensation for this position at the time of publication. Actual compensation will be determined in accordance with the applicable collective agreement and internal compensation policies. Factors that we consider include, but are not limited to, role, career level, performance, skills, level of expertise, experience, location, market competitiveness, and internal equity. The estimated starting compensation range is €35,086 – €41,848. The Company will comply with all local pay requirements and collective bargaining agreements, where applicable.
