Short description of the position:
We are seeking a trainee researcher to join the Institute for Regional Development, with a working focus on transport planning and mobility research. The position aims to support our research on the analysis of (rural) transport accessibility and the understanding of rural mobility patterns. The successful candidate will support the Regional Development team in the implementation of two EU-funded projects.
The duration of the internship is at least 6 months and up to 9 months (to be agreed upon with the candidate).
Tasks:
RECCAM project: Support the Regional Development team in the implementation of the Interreg Alpine Space project RECCAM, which focuses on the development of collective autonomous transport solutions in rural areas. Tasks include, for example, the organisation of events, data collection, and the preparation of reports and analyses for project deliverables.
CLOSING THE GAP project: Support the Regional Development team in the implementation of the Interreg Central Europe project CLOSING THE GAP, which aims to improve cooperation for cross-border transport services. Tasks include, for example, the organisation of events, data collection, and the preparation of reports and analyses for project deliverables.
Complementary tasks: In addition to the two projects above, the trainee may be involved in conferences and networking events, the writing of blog posts to communicate research findings to a broader audience, and the preparation of contributions for scientific publications.
Requirements:
Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in transport-related disciplines such as engineering, spatial planning, geography, architecture, economics, political science, European studies, or a related field. Please indicate any transport-related courses or modules attended during your studies.
Technical competencies: Professional command of the Microsoft Office Suite for everyday work.
Research skills: Experience with desk research, qualitative analysis, stakeholder mapping, and policy or governance-related topics.
Soft skills: Ability and motivation to work in international and multidisciplinary teams, combined with a curious and proactive mindset.
Language (English): Professional proficiency in English (C1 level) in writing, speaking, and listening.
A plus if you also have:
. Work experience in the research and/or transportation domain.
. Previous experience with EU projects like Interreg, Horizon, DUT, Life.
. Technical competence: Good command of statistical software like R and Stata.
- Language: Good command (at least B1) of German and/or Italian.
