WHERE YOU’LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM
As a Senior Specialist, Research and Data Services, you’ll provide desktop research and data services support across short- to medium-term projects. You’ll bring specialized knowledge of relevant research resources, with a focus on supporting Bain’s practice areas, including PEG/Generalist research.
This is an individual contributor role where you’ll manage your own deliverables with limited oversight, support research planning and execution, and help capture and share research experience across the team. You’ll also contribute to asset-building activities, training, and service improvements that help the team continue to grow and evolve.
WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH
You’ll join Bain’s Research and Data Services team in Milan, supporting consulting, expert delivery, and practice teams with high-quality business research, data services, information management, and research enablement.
You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders across Bain to understand project context, identify information needs, and deliver clear, accurate, and well-organized research. You’ll also collaborate with colleagues across research and practice teams to share knowledge, strengthen research capabilities, and contribute to ongoing product, service, and process improvements.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- The Snr Specialist, Research and Data Services provides desktop research and Research and Data Services to consulting, expert delivery and practice teams. Frequently works as part of project teams to support in research planning and execution, information management, training, and capture of research experience.
- This role is to establish their affiliation in certain practice areas of Bain's practice areas and have specialized knowledge of relevant research resources.
- This is an individual contributor able to deliver on short to medium-term projects and manage own deliverables with limited oversight from supervisor.
- This role participates in ongoing product and service evaluations, and resource development activities including their implementation.
Principal Accountabilities and % of time
Research (75%)
- Conduct business research utilizing desktop resources and business tools to deliver on short to medium-term projects with limited oversight from supervisor.
- Contribute as an active member of an Industry Team to support complex and specialized research, and should also be proficient in conducting general research in all areas of interest to Bain.
- Proactively work with customers to understand the project context and specific information needs
- Demonstrate knowledge and effective use of local, regional and global general and industry / capability specialized data sources and their applications.
- Deliver accurate, well-organized and comprehensive research solution and result.
- Develop regular relationship with internal stakeholder, solicit feedback on performed research and resolve issues.
Asset Building and others (25%)
- Support activities including processing orders and new acquisitions, cataloging and serials check-in, end-user system updates, tracking circulation of materials from the collection and ongoing maintenance of department assets.
- Participate in knowledge sharing, training, and relevant projects to continuously enhance skills alongside business growth.
- Participate in product and service evaluations and process / tool innovations, and contribute in implementation as appropriate.
- Conduct just-in-time and regular group training for researchers, consulting and consulting support staff.
- Build industry or subject matter expertise by supporting relevant projects, and attending different format of training and experience sharing.
- Participate in Research and Data Services marketing efforts.
- May lead small scale initiatives as assigned.
- May coach less experienced colleagues sometimes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Fluent written and verbal communication skills in native language and English required

ABOUT YOU
Experience
- 3 - 5 years of conducting business research in a fast-paced consulting, market research or other professional services or equivalent preferred
- Experience in using regular business research databases, e.g. Factiva, LSEG/Refinitiv, S&P CapitalIQ etc. as well as some industry specialized ones if possible
- Experience in effectively working with diverse stakeholders and / or cross culture
- Experience in proactively taking initiatives to enhance working efficiency
- Training and presentation skills
Education OR equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Degree in Information Science or business from an accredited university - or equivalent higher education degree
In accordance with applicable Italian pay transparency requirements, Bain & Company provides information regarding the compensation applicable to this position.
The annualized base salary range for this role in Italy is €35,750 - €48,000 gross per year.
This compensation information has been determined based on objective and gender-neutral criteria and reflects the compensation normally applicable to the position at the time of publication. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as relevant experience, skills, qualifications, and the scope of responsibilities associated with the role.
Variable Compensation:
This role is eligible for an annual performance bonus of up to 7% of base salary. Bonus awards are discretionary and actual bonus outcomes depend on individual and firm performance.
