The Senior Sales Engineer is responsible for developing, managing and converting technical-commercial opportunities for mechanical engineered products in industrial applications. The role combines application engineering competence, consultative selling and account development, with direct ownership of customer requirements, technical solution definition, quotation strategy, negotiation support and project follow-up from opportunity qualification to order intake and post-order handover.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Manage the full technical-commercial sales cycle for assigned customers, prospects and application projects, from lead qualification to quotation, negotiation, order intake and handover.
· Analyse customer applications, machine duty cycles, operating conditions, interfaces, mechanical constraints and performance requirements to identify the most suitable product configuration.
· Translate customer requirements into technically sound and commercially viable proposals, coordinating with Engineering, Product Management and Production where required.
· Prepare and validate quotations, cost assumptions, margins, lead times, technical deviations and commercial conditions in line with company targets and approval processes.
· Develop and maintain relationships with OEMs, system integrators, distributors and key industrial accounts, acting as a trusted technical-commercial counterpart.
· Lead customer meetings, technical presentations, product selection discussions, site visits, FAT/support activities and trade fair interactions with senior autonomy.
· Drive pipeline development through structured prospecting, account mapping, opportunity qualification, follow-up discipline and CRM accuracy.
· Negotiate technical scope, pricing, commercial terms, delivery expectations and project priorities while protecting margin, risk position and customer relationship.
· Monitor market trends, competitor solutions, pricing pressure and application feedback, converting field intelligence into actionable input for Product Management and Sales Management.
· Support internal alignment across Sales, Technical Office, Engineering, Back Office, Quality, Production, Service and Logistics to ensure reliable execution and customer satisfaction.
· Contribute to sales planning, forecast accuracy, budget preparation and account development plans for assigned territories, segments or strategic customers.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Proven experience selling or technically supporting mechanical engineered products, ideally including power transmission, drivetrain components, couplings, PTOs, gearboxes, hydraulic interfaces, rotating equipment or comparable industrial mechanical systems.
· Solid understanding of mechanical applications, torque, power, speed, duty cycle, installation constraints, interfaces, tolerances, bill of materials and basic failure modes.
· Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, layouts, specifications, datasheets, application forms and customer technical documentation.
· Capability to discuss product selection, sizing criteria, application limits and technical trade-offs with engineering teams and technically competent customers.
· Experience with industrial OEMs, machine builders, system integrators or B2B project-driven sales environments.
· Mechanical, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering degree or equivalent technical background gained through professional experience.
· Professional English is required; additional languages are considered a strong advantage.
· Confident use of CRM systems, quotation tools, Microsoft Office and structured reporting methods.
COMMERCIAL REQUIREMENTS
· Minimum 5–8 years of experience in technical sales, application sales, sales engineering or business development for engineered industrial products.
· Demonstrated ability to manage complex customer discussions involving technical scope, pricing, delivery, warranty, contractual terms and internal approval flows.
· Strong margin awareness and ability to balance customer expectations, technical feasibility, delivery constraints and profitability.
· Experience developing key accounts, identifying new applications, expanding product penetration and converting competitor accounts.
· Ability to prepare structured account plans, opportunity reviews, forecasts and management reports.
· Italian as native language – Professional English – Spanish language will be considered a plus

This is not a junior support role: the position requires ownership of opportunities, accounts, priorities and results.
